The Organizing Committee for the Sustainable Water Conference warmly welcomes you to this conference. This leaflet will provide you with the general information for the meeting and we encourage you to read it at your earliest convenience
The weather in Nairobi will be generally fair. Low: 9oC/49oF
High: 20oC/68oF.  It is expected that the meeting days will be warm and sunny, with slightly chilly nights. 

Weather

English and Kiswahili are the main languages used in Kenya besides local dialects.  The official meeting languages will however be English and French.
Languages
Kenya Shilling - Notes: KES: 50, 100, 200, 500, 1,000; Coins: KES: 1, 5, 10, 20.  Participants who may wish to change currencies may do so at the Airport on arrival or any of the following banks along University Way: Kenya Commercial Bank, Cooperative Bank or University of Nairobi Barclays Bank. US Dollars, Euros or Sterling Pounds are more convenient. 1USD to 75 Kshs. Or 1Euro to 110 Kshs. (approx.).

Currency
Coffee and tea will be provided each morning and afternoon at the venue of the meeting.
Coffee/Tea breaks

Some hotels offer all the above facilities at a cost higher than the normal commercial rate (the rates depend on destination countries). However, all bills on communications by participants need to be settled by themselves prior to their departure.

Insurance

Sponsored participants will be met on arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya and will be taken by a shuttle or taxi to various hotels where they have been booked. There will be somebody carrying a placard bearing participants names, so keep a keen look-out.  You may however get a taxi to your hotel room at a rough cost of Ksh 1,500 - 2,000.
Transport

The conference organizers will only settle accommodation bill for the sponsored participants during the meeting days. All other extra meals, phone calls, laundry, etc, shall be settled directly by participants before their departure

Lunch

Like many other large cities in the world, Nairobi has its share of personal security problems and you are advised to take precaution to avoid being the victim of crime:
           -Leave your valuables at the hotel and only carry small amounts of money
             the hotel has a safe deposit box for valuable items.  
           -Be careful when using credit cards
           -Don't walk at night, and especially not alone.
           -Do not offer resistance in case of armed mugging
