This section provides information on scientific events Have taken place in Africa, including conferences and workshops organised or sponsored by the Pan Africa Chemistry Network.
It includes information on how African chemists can apply for travel grants to attend conferences within Africa , and about fellowships that will allow for exchange of ideas and promotecollaboration among researchers researchers.
The Pan Africa Chemistry Network (PACN) has, for two years, been forging links between scientists, educators, students and their communities, to help promote science and research throughout Africa......
PACN aims at aims at developing two centers of excellence at the Departments of Chemistry in Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenya and Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. This is because most African countries have few research laboratories based at the national research institutions and universities. The existing capacity is also inadequate due to lack of sufficient funds to support research activities in these institutions. The existing capacity is also inadequate due to lack of sufficient funds to support research activities in these institutions. In order to strengthen the national capacity for chemical analysis and build the necessary analytical skills of the available scientist to produce high quality data required for policy decision making in the country, PACN has embarked on training African scientists on instrumentation, especially the GC-MS.
i) GC-MS at AAU Ethiopia, 25-29th January 2010
PACN organized a workshop at the Department of Chemistry, Addis Ababa University from 25-29th January, 2010
ii) GC-MS at JKUAT Kenya, 23-27th August 2010
PACN in collaboration with Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) sponsored a GC-MS Instrumentation workshop at JKUAT from 23-27th August 2010 on "GC-MS: A Versatile Technique for Qualitative and Quantitative Mixture Analysis."
Symposium on Organic Chemistry at the University of Nairobi, 23rd July 2010
This workshop was organized to assess the recent developments in Organic Chemistry industry, research and teaching in Kenya........
